Years ago, when I wanted to spend more time with dogs (but knew my cats would not approve of a new four-legged roommate), I found the perfect answer: volunteering with The Cinnamon Trust.

As a volunteer, you might not bond with a dog in exactly the same way their owner does. But you’ll still build a beautiful connection — through regular walks, playtime, and plenty of affection.

The Cinnamon Trust supports elderly and terminally ill pet owners across the UK, helping them keep their beloved companions close for as long as possible. Sometimes that means walking a dog for a housebound owner. Other times, it means providing short-term foster care while an owner is in hospital.

And when owners move into care homes or sadly pass away, the Trust steps in again. They do this by making sure their pets are loved, cared for, and given a secure, happy future. Many owners even make arrangements with the Trust in advance, finding peace of mind in knowing their furry friend will always be looked after.

Even when a pet is in the Trust’s care, the owner stays connected — through visits, photos, and letters. How wonderful is that?
